Our business thrives on mutually dynamic relationships with the communities in which we operate. That’s why we are committed to Corporate Responsibility (CR), and will continue to improve the wellbeing of those around us.
Our Corporate Responsibility (CR) efforts include:
- Establishing procedures that are in compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements and our Code of Business Conduct with respect to relations with customers, suppliers, and fellow employees.
- Complying with relevant environmental standards to minimise our operational impact on the environment.
- Supporting underprivileged groups through our community programmes such as the “Add Hope” programme and the “KFC Feeding Programme” programme.
- Empowering the special needs group with an open hiring policy. We are the first western quick-service restaurant chain in the world to establish 3 restaurants fully operated by staff with such impairments.
- Environmental conservation efforts through responsible wastewater treatment and disposal in our plants and facilities to conserve energy.
OUR ENVIRONMENT
To minimise impact on the natural environment, we are careful to ensure our decisions play a fundamental role in protecting the planet’s ecological health, while balancing operational efficiency and stakeholders’ interests.
KFC Green Outlet
Our KFC Nilai Square outlet is the first “Certified Green Restaurant” in Malaysia, accredited with three certifications: Gold - Green Building Index Sdn Bhd (Malaysia), Platinum - BCA Green Mark (Singapore) and Gold - LEED (USA). It is one of only a few buildings in the world to have attained all three certifications.
Energy Efficiency
All new KFC outlets are fitted with LED lighting for energy efficiency, while KFC Delivery has been adopting eco-friendly electric scooters since 2015 and we currently own 275 electric scooters as part of our delivery fleet.

Wastewater Treatment
We place great importance on the treatment of wastewater from our plants, to ensure that we responsibly reduce all contaminants for safe discharge back to the environment.
Our RM2 million wastewater treatment facility for Ayamas Bandar Tenggara in Johor complies with the Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE) Standard A for discharge, and uses the Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) process to treat 800 cubic metres of wastewater each day.

The Bakery and Commissary divisions, both based at Kompleks KFC Glenmarie, operate their own wastewater treatment plant that meets the DOE’s Standard B rating. Built at a cost of RM1.5 million, the facilities use a Biological Treatment System that consists of an Up-Flow Anaerobic Sludge Bed (UASB) and Alternative Intermittent Cyclic Reactor (AICAR).
Region Food Industries (RFI) treats about 180 cubic metres of wastewater daily using a continuous biological and chemical process, and its final discharge meets the DOE’s Standard B rating. RFI uses Natural Gas and Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) for the reduction of air pollution emissions.
Region Food Industries (RFI) treats about 250 cubic metres of wastewater daily using a continuous biological and chemical process, and its final discharge meets the DOE’s Standard B rating. It upgraded its burner in 2009 to enable natural gas machinery operations instead of diesel. In 2014, RFI obtained a 5S certification for Quality Environment Management System from the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).
